We can provide world-class education to over 600 students across three communities in Honduras

Prior to volunteering with Bilingual Education for Central America (BECA), Honduras was little more to me than a name on map. In over a year serving here, I have seen the hope and opportunity that a bilingual education brings to Honduran students and their families.

I chose to return for a second year with BECA in order to continue serving these families and communities. Amigos de Jesus, where I currently live, is a special place; ADJ operates as a children's home taking in kids from troubled backgrounds and supporting them with food, housing, education, guidance, and love. For children that were asked to grow up too young, ADJ provides a place for them to be happy, to be secure, to be educated, to be naughty, to be free - in essence to be kids.

I chose to return for a second year with BECA because we have a responsibility to improve the world around us for the next generation. Don't get me wrong, I have plenty of moments that are fun and enjoyable in Honduras, but I am driven by seeing the impact that education has on improving our world. I personally have learned from many great teachers, both inside and outside the classroom. Now, I am currently doing what I can to reciprocate the gift that they gave me. Education is a tool that improves individuals, communities, and nations. But this change does not just magically happen on it's own.

It takes time, it takes effort, and it takes resources.

I chose to return in order to do a small part in making a big difference.
