My name is Erin McClintock and, I have been a BECA volunteer teacher for the past 2 years. I teach 5th and 6th grade English and science at Santa Monica Bilingual School located in Vida Nueva. I grew up incredibly privileged with many resources and opportunities available for me to succeed in life. That is not the case for my students. They are growing up in a country where nearly 60% of the population lives below the poverty line. My Honduran friend explained it perfectly. He said, “In Honduras the majority of us don’t work to save money, we work to survive. We work to buy food for the next day. It’s difficult to move forward in life when you don’t have money.” This is why bilingual education is so important for my students. It will open up opportunities for better jobs so that they may beat the vicious cycle of poverty and inequality they were born into.

Join me in supporting real change. Let's support good in the world and make a difference. Help us empower and enable our students to pursue opportunities within Honduras by equipping them with the skills they need to access economic and social opportunity from within their native countries.

Just a small donation will go a long way to helping me meet my goal for Bilingual Education for Central America.
